WIN a Family Ticket to the 23rd Abingdon Air and Country Show

Lancaster

The Abingdon Air & Country Show held at Abingdon Airfield, Dalton Barracks, Oxon. returns on Saturday 20th May for its 23rd year. This annual event provides a great day out for all the family with “something for everyone”, whilst raising money for charitable causes.

This year’s three-hour Flying Display is set to include; the BBMF Lancaster, 80 years almost to the day since the Dambusters Raid, a Hawker Hurricane Mk I, not one but two P51 Mustangs, a PBY-5A Catalina and a Yak-3. From the not-too-distant past we have the return of the Rockwell OV10 Bronco from Belgium and, from the current RAF inventory, we have flypasts from a C17 Globemaster. On the ground, amongst others will be a Tutor from RAF Benson and hopefully a C130J Hercules, possibly one of the last chances to see this aircraft before it is retired by the RAF. Again, helicopters will abound, both flying and on static, including Gazelles, Wasps, a Scout, a Sioux, a couple of Sud Alouettes and one of only two airworthy ex-Army Lynx, now in private ownership. Classic Jets radio-controlled models will give one display. Ground attractions will include the Solent Stars Motorcycle Display Team, Arena Demonstrations of Falconry and the ‘Stars’, a Craft Marquee, Live Music and Dance, Steam Engines, Classic and ex-Military vehicles of all types and sizes, various Trade Stalls, Amusements and much more.

Tickets are now available online at www.abingdonairandcountry.co.uk, please note there are no retail sales outlets this year. Car Parks, open at 7.30am, entry into the showground is from 10am.

I know you’ll enjoy a fabulous day out! Another fun-filled family day out returning on 𝗦𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝟭𝘀𝘁 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 is SydenhamFayre. The long-established event, co-ordinated and run entirely by villagers, raises funds for local groups and causes, supporting schools, community organisations and facilities in the surrounding area. Last year it raised over £9,000 for local causes. The Fayre centres around the picturesque village green from 12:30pm - 4:00pm and this year visitors can enjoy live entertainment, children’s games, a dog show, vintage cars, a BBQ, the tearoom and a huge variety of stalls selling quality gifts and goodies from local producers, plus there’ll be the ever-popular Bottle Tombola, Coconut Shy, Plate Smash, Plant Sale, Bric-A-Brac, Jewellery, Vintage Clothing and Tarot reader. Something else I wanted to draw attention to, after receiving a Press Release from Local home care company, Home Instead (Witney). They recently commissioned a survey of family carers and found 29% of them in Oxfordshire are at breaking point due to feeling highly stressed and isolated. It also concluded that a concerning 64% of them are neglecting their own health and well-being. As a company that supports older people in their own homes, Home Instead sees countless families in a desperate state as they seek to give their loved one the best life possible. If you are one of these people I urge you to reach out to them, or similar local organisations, to help you lighten the load. The full press release can be found on my website (here: https://shorturl.at/glvRX) along with contact information and tips that may help you and your loved ones.
