Planet success for local Health and Organic retailer, as they enter their third decade in Thame…

shop exterior

The last 4 months have been challenging to say the least for many businesses but as an essential store, Planet Health and Organics in Swan Walk, Thame, have remained open throughout the pandemic providing and updating their level of care and service to everyone in the local area.

In addition to being open 6 days a week, the shop is now offering a range of services to suit everyone whatever their circumstances. A home delivery service free of charge is available to all customers, with priority given to key workers and those in greater need. Whatโ€™s more, the team can prepare customers shopping and orders in advance, to minimise the time spent shopping.

Owner of the shop, Peter Dewdney, says

โ€œWe have been and continue to ensure our store is as hygienically safe as is possible with hand sanitizers around and outside the shop. Even to the side of our new refilling station we have provided a sanitizer unit. We are limiting the numbers of shoppers in the store however to date we have experienced little difficulty and everyone asked have felt safe, secure and happy to be shopping again.โ€

As Planet Health & Organics approach their third decade in the town, they have reorganised the shop creating not only additional space but a new and organised layout. The ground floor now displays an extensive range of natural supplementation, herbs, nutrients and specialist products together with all health and beauty. The first floor has organic and specialist foods, chilled foods and an eco-friendly refill station. They have also expanded the range of pre-packed nuts, grains, riceโ€™s, flakes, pulses and seeds.

Peter continues,

โ€œWe look forward to welcoming back all our customers when the time is right. A very specific thank must be given to all our customers who have supported us throughout this period of lock down. Your loyalty and support have been greatly appreciatedโ€.

The long-established event, co-ordinated and run entirely by villagers, raises funds for local groups and causes, supporting schools, community organisations and facilities in the surrounding area. Last year it raised over ยฃ9,000 for local causes. The Fayre centres around the picturesque village green from 12:30pm - 4:00pm and this year visitors can enjoy live entertainment, childrenโ€™s games, a dog show, vintage cars, a BBQ, the tearoom and a huge variety of stalls selling quality gifts and goodies from local producers, plus thereโ€™ll be the ever-popular Bottle Tombola, Coconut Shy, Plate Smash, Plant Sale, Bric-A-Brac, Jewellery, Vintage Clothing and Tarot reader. Something else I wanted to draw attention to, after receiving a Press Release from Local home care company, Home Instead (Witney). They recently commissioned a survey of family carers and found 29% of them in Oxfordshire are at breaking point due to feeling highly stressed and isolated. It also concluded that a concerning 64% of them are neglecting their own health and well-being. As a company that supports older people in their own homes, Home Instead sees countless families in a desperate state as they seek to give their loved one the best life possible. If you are one of these people I urge you to reach out to them, or similar local organisations, to help you lighten the load. The full press release can be found on my website (here: https://shorturl.at/glvRX) along with contact information and tips that may help you and your loved ones. Hello Readers, Welcome to the April 2024 Issue of Look Local Magazine. Spring has officially sprung, the daffodils are blooming in abundance and lighter evenings are here once again. I am really looking forward to getting out and about around the local area with the kids this Easter holidays. First up we plan to take a trip to Oxford on the bus to explore the Natural History Museum which is FREE to enter. Throughout the Easter holidays you can take part in an eggciting family trail. Eggsplore the Eggstraordinary Easter Family Trail around the museum to find all the hidden eggswhilst discovering fun natural history facts and themed specimens! The museum also hosts Science Saturdays where you have the opportunity to dive into the ocean world with themed crafts and โ€˜meet the scientistsโ€™ sessions. Waddesdon Manorโ€™s annual Easter Adventure is on until 14th April and Waterperry Gardens are hosting a Hunt around the ornamental gardens. It costs ยฃ3.95 per child with a prize - check out their website for more info. There are lots of other cute little Easter trails taking place locally that I have seen pop up on Social Media - keep a eye out on our Facebook & Insta Pages as I will share any that I see. For any little train enthusiasts, Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railways, โ€˜Kids travel for a quidโ€™ initiative is back! See more information about this and their other upcoming events on page 15. And for those who have work commitments during the Easter Holidays and are looking to book your little people into some enjoyable clubs, I came across a brand new one thatโ€™s coming to Thame and Haddenham called The Outdoors Project (www.theoutdoorsproject.co.uk/aylesbury-thame/). They provide 100% outdoor adventures for years 1 to 6, which run throughout the Easter and Summer holidays. Thereโ€™s also two competitions to enjoy this month, our regular Thame Players Theatre competition is on page 19 and there also a chance to win tickets to this year Abingdon Air & Country Show on page 14.
