Welcome to our August music page. Here you will find information on how to find the best musical instrument tuition in the area and what musical activities and workshops are taking place at this time.

Thame has a variety of fantastic opportunities for budding musicians who wish to join together with other like-minded people. From bands to choirs to bell ringing! We also host a huge variety of annual musical event’s, these will all be back to provide a wonderful calendar of live music in 2021!

Thame Music Academy

Currently the TMA ‘physical’ premises are temporarily closed due to the current government guidelines, however their ‘VIRTUAL’ lessons are now well up and running and many of their fantastic students are currently taking advantage of continuing their regular lessons from home until it is safe for the academy to re-open it’s doors!

An update to share with you now is that TMA is currently sending out a survey to all of its valued students in order to gauge when is the best time for them to re-open their fantastic teaching facility. The academy prides itself on ensuring that everyone,

whether that be the tutors, students, parents or guardians, is involved in the decision and when a firm date is set to re-open this will be updated via social media and the TMA website. There will also be detailed information regarding the steps and measures the academy will be taking in order to ensure maximum safety and cleanliness is upheld at all times in accordance with current government guidelines. Keep your eyes out for updates coming soon!

Though TMA are very much looking forward to getting back to face to face lessons they shall of course follow official advice and wait until the time is right to do so. This will not be too far in the future but please bear with them for now!

In the meantime, the academy are now offering online live lessons in a large variety of instruments to anyone who wishes to learn a new instrument or brush up on their existing skills! This is a fantastic opportunity to learn something new and perhaps start a new hobby you have been thinking about for some time.

As always, TMA have very competitive rates and they can also offer an
initial trial lesson to you so

you have the opportunity to meet your tutor, discuss the learning in more depth and get a feel for the lessons before then continuing to regular sessions.

For further information about all of the above please contact TMA via the details at the end of this article.

Do you miss live music?

Unfortunately at the current time there can be no live music events taking place within venues. However it doesn’t mean you have to miss out entirely.

‘Open Micsolate’
Back at the beginning of Lockdown with us all being forced to socially distance ourselves from each other, a group of open mic fanatics wondered if any friends or friends several times removed might like to post a video of them having a bash at a song/ performance open mic style! Any style, any standard! They set up a Facbook Group called ‘Open Micsolate’ for such performers and since March it has grown to almost 6500 members with people from around the world sharing their musical talents. It has also given a chance for people to collaborate online and create some truly stunning music together!

So if you’d like to get involved, join the group, be brave and get posting! Feel free to invite anyone you think may enjoy or contribute. Kind comments only, if you hear anything you don’t like, skip on! All copyrights belong to original artists.

The first Thursday Music Club – is providing fantastic online live sets from some of the countries best musicians, whether local or from further afield! This totally free service can be found via the FTMC Facebook page where regular virtual events are added.

Hello @followers Welcome to the July 2024 Issue of Look Local Magazine. I want to dedicate this months letter to three NEW local businesses that I have been made aware of. First up we have Beauty at No.11 which is a sustainable beauty studio that has opened in Watlington. Owned by Watlington resident, 23-year-old Georgina Eales, the salon offers the full range of treatments that customers would expect to find in larger salons, but with the emphasis very much on sustainable, hypo-allergenic products. Georgina, who learned her craft with respected beauty industry leaders Clinique and Charlotte Tilbury, has clear ideas about how to set her business apart from others. She is the only beauty studio within a 25-mile radius to offer Hona, a pioneer of hypo-allergenic nail products. Other innovative services include Elim, a medical grade pedicure treatment, which uses state of the art ingredients to remove hard skin from the feet. You can find our more about Beauty at No.11 on their website www.booksolo.co/beautyatno11. The next business I want to give a shout out to is a small, sustainability-led retail business called Comhla (pronounced - coh-la), which means ‘together’. Founded by Lucie Harrild, the brand aims to help customers step away from fast fashion by enjoying a variety of brands and services using their mantra: Buy Well. Mend. Extend. Lucie was a sustainability professional for the last 20 years and then in 2022 ventured into the world of Comhla, in 2023 she opened a small boutique in Long Crendon to showcase the concept she is building online into a reality for customers. For more information about the business or to shop, visit them in person at Manor Stables, Long Crendon, HP18 9FF or head to their online shop www.comhla.co.uk. With the online world in mind, and with summer well and truly upon us now, this leads nicely onto the third new business I wanted to bring to your attention to. Cool Heat Solution specialise in cooling, heating and outdoor living essentials for your home and garden. Turn to page 12-13 for their Top Picks of the perfect products to transform your outdoor space and embrace alfresco living! Or head straight to their website, www.coolheatsolution.co.uk, to shop their extensive collection of top quality products from the UKs best loved brands. Until next month, enjoy reading...Love Emma xREAD ONLINE VERSION HERE: https://look-localmagazine.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/JUL24_Issue139_28pg_WEB.pdf ... See MoreSee Less
