Do you know an unsung hero? Nominations are now open for the Thame Town Awards

Thame Town Awards are back and it’s time to celebrate our local unsung heroes who go out of their way for others to make our community a safer, more vibrant and happier place to live. Do you know someone who lives, works, studies, or contributes to life in Thame that deserves a Town Award? If so, nominate them! You can make your nomination online via the Town Council’s website, or collect a form from the Town Hall.

Company of the Year

A local company that has gone the extra mile for the wider community e.g., supporting community initiatives, offering opportunities, and practicing sustainability (companies can nominate themselves for this award).

Creative Arts Contribution

Someone of any age who excels in the Creative Arts and/or has contributed to the creativity of our town. This award covers a wide range of people – from the star of the show to the behind-the-scenes team and everyone in between. Nominations are welcome for any form of creativity.

Service with a Smile

There are so many individuals and businesses who consistently provide a friendly service in Thame, but who do you know that should be recognised for it this year? We’re not just looking for shop assistants – we also want to hear about opticians, carers, cleaners and doctors, to name but a few!

Sporting Contribution

This could be someone (or a team), of any age, who deserves a gold medal for their commitment to a sport or contribution to local sports. Perhaps a player who excels in their sport or someone who goes above and beyond to support their team from the side-lines. We are also looking for those who have made a notable contribution to sporting / fitness within the community.

Volunteer of the Year

Thame thrives on individuals who selflessly give their time to help others in our community. From fundraisers to friendly neighbours, there are plenty to choose from but who do you think deserves to be awarded Volunteer of the Year?

Volunteer Group of the Year

A volunteer group or organisation that has worked tirelessly for the good of our community. This could be a charity, but we also welcome nominations for less formal volunteer groups, who might have formed in response to the pandemic, or any volunteer group that makes a positive difference to their community.

To date, the Town Awards panel has awarded 73 Town Awards to local people and organisations.

Anyone can make a nomination. Visit https://www.thametowncouncil.gov.uk/community/town-awards/ and complete the online form, or pop into the Town Hall Information Centre to pick up a nomination form. Be sure to follow the Thame Town Awards Facebook page and on Twitter #ThameAwards to be one of the first to find out this year’s Town Award winners. Nominations are now open and close on Thursday 26 May.

Please visit https://www.thametowncouncil.gov.uk/community/town-awards/ for terms and conditions.

This year’s awards are generously sponsored by The HR Agency, Red Kite Radio, and Helpful Hirings.

“The HR Agency – People on purpose, is a Thame-based HR consultancy founded with a commitment to the environment and our local community.  Thame Town Awards provide our thriving community the opportunity to recognise and celebrate some of the brilliant people who make this such a great area to live and work! It’s a privilege for The HR Agency to be able to support this fabulous event.”

“Red Kite Radio, the Ofcom-licensed community radio service for Thame, Haddenham and the surrounding villages, has been on the air since June 2017. During that time, the station has worked closely with Thame Town Council to bring community information to the notice of all our listeners. As part of that process, Red Kite Radio is delighted to be one of the sponsors of this year’s Thame Town Awards, which recognise the incredible contributions of individual people in our town.”

“Helpful Hirings is so pleased to have the opportunity to support an event that praises local heroes. As a local business, it is amazing to see the amount of people who are being recognised for their hard work and dedication to the community. The Thame Town Awards is an event that highlights those who do that ‘little bit extra’ and it is a privilege to be sponsoring such an occasion.”

Hello @followers Welcome to the July 2024 Issue of Look Local Magazine. I want to dedicate this months letter to three NEW local businesses that I have been made aware of. First up we have Beauty at No.11 which is a sustainable beauty studio that has opened in Watlington. Owned by Watlington resident, 23-year-old Georgina Eales, the salon offers the full range of treatments that customers would expect to find in larger salons, but with the emphasis very much on sustainable, hypo-allergenic products. Georgina, who learned her craft with respected beauty industry leaders Clinique and Charlotte Tilbury, has clear ideas about how to set her business apart from others. She is the only beauty studio within a 25-mile radius to offer Hona, a pioneer of hypo-allergenic nail products. Other innovative services include Elim, a medical grade pedicure treatment, which uses state of the art ingredients to remove hard skin from the feet. You can find our more about Beauty at No.11 on their website www.booksolo.co/beautyatno11. The next business I want to give a shout out to is a small, sustainability-led retail business called Comhla (pronounced - coh-la), which means ‘together’. Founded by Lucie Harrild, the brand aims to help customers step away from fast fashion by enjoying a variety of brands and services using their mantra: Buy Well. Mend. Extend. Lucie was a sustainability professional for the last 20 years and then in 2022 ventured into the world of Comhla, in 2023 she opened a small boutique in Long Crendon to showcase the concept she is building online into a reality for customers. For more information about the business or to shop, visit them in person at Manor Stables, Long Crendon, HP18 9FF or head to their online shop www.comhla.co.uk. With the online world in mind, and with summer well and truly upon us now, this leads nicely onto the third new business I wanted to bring to your attention to. Cool Heat Solution specialise in cooling, heating and outdoor living essentials for your home and garden. Turn to page 12-13 for their Top Picks of the perfect products to transform your outdoor space and embrace alfresco living! Or head straight to their website, www.coolheatsolution.co.uk, to shop their extensive collection of top quality products from the UKs best loved brands. Until next month, enjoy reading...Love Emma xREAD ONLINE VERSION HERE: https://look-localmagazine.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/JUL24_Issue139_28pg_WEB.pdf ... See MoreSee Less
