Chalgrove Village May Day Festival, a great day for the whole family…

The largest and best free entry festival in South Oxfordshire is held every May Day Bank Holiday Monday in the village of Chalgrove. 

With around 4,000 people visiting the festival it is an excellent family day out with much to do for all the family.

Free attractions include live music, displays and entertainment in two arenas, classic car display and an Army Tank.

There are many stalls at the Festival, some selling arts and crafts, others raising money for local organisations and various charities.

For the more adventurous (young and not so young!) there are fairground rides, climbing wall and a bouncy slide!

For sustenance a variety of food stalls can be found around the Festival ground providing everything from traditional delights such as candy floss, ice cream and burgers through to pizza and Greek cusine. And to wash it all down a licenced bar selling, amongst other things, cider and real ale!

May Day Bank Holiday Monday from 11:00 am until 4:00pm.

For more details on these events, check out pages 14 - 17.I also want to mention two charity events that are coming up this month and early October. The 7th September sees the return of the Hearing Dogs for Deaf People free Plant, Cake & Dog Show. Dog agility and a fun dog show, not to mention delicious homemade cakes and plants, will be just some of the attractions taking place at the southern training centre in Saunderton (HP27 9NS). Visitors are welcome to bring their dogs along, provided they are kept on a lead and cleaned up after. Dogs can even be entered into the fun dog show, with prizes like “waggiest tail.” Attendees will also see the charity’s hearing dogs showcase their skills. The legendary sales, which are organised and run by long-standing Hearing Dogs volunteers, Fiona and Rob Daniels, have grown from very humble beginnings into one of the most popular fixtures in the Hearing Dogs calendar. In fact, since they began in 2020, the team has raised a staggering £80,000.And if you’re looking to challenge yourself then why not sign up for the Sue Ryder Starlight Hike Thames Valley which takes place on Saturday, 5th October. Walk 10k under the stars at Mapledurham Estate in memory of a loved one while raising funds to support those facing the end of life or grief. Supported by Azaego and Gravity Personnel, the event includes warm-up entertainment and live music. Finishers will receive a medal and the satisfaction of making a difference. The funds raised will help ensure no one faces death or grief alone.
