Towersey Festival (23-26 August 2013) is back with a bang…..

Mercury Prize nominated Unthanks and live favourites, Show Of Hands, are among the headline acts set to appear at this year’s Towersey Festival (23-26 August 2013).

Making their debut at Towersey Festival in 2004, Unthanks are one of the UK’s most lauded contemporary folk bands, combining traditional songs with material by Antony and the Johnsons, Robert Wyatt, Elvis Costello, Tom Waits and King Crimson.

As Show Of Hands, singer-songwriter Steve Knightley and multi-instrumentalist Phil Beer have been wowing live audiences since the early ‘90s. Their most recent studio album, Wake The Union (their 13th), balances the English and North American influences which lie at the heart of Show of Hands music, garnering 4- star reviews from critics.

They join the impressive line up which includes other exciting acts including, Bellowhead’s Spiers and Boden, a specially reformed Home Service, featuring War Horse songsmith John Tams and newest additions, chart-topping band Blockheads and Italian act Nidi d’Arac.

Named as a Top 10 Festivals for 2013 by Songlines magazine, Towersey has been a major event in the Oxfordshire calendar for 49 years, with its eclectic mix of music, ceilidh dance sessions, poetry, comedy, theatre, circus performers, visual arts, films, workshops, storytelling, food and a real ale bar, packed with artisan beers and ciders.

The popular Children’s Festival features everything from drop-in craft activities to baby reflexology, while the Shooting Roots strand presents a programme of activities dedicated to, and run by, young people.

Joe Heap, Festival Director, says: “The current boom of folk music into the mainstream with the likes of Bellowhead and Mumford And Sons has seen many pretenders, but Towersey is the real deal. A community festival where folk music has real roots. The people that come, and the sheer variety of music and art on offer, make Towersey a total escapist event.”

Tickets for the full festival start range from £55.00 – £125.00, with under 5s free. Camping available. Day tickets (Fri- Mon) £10.00 – £30.00. The Blockheads £19.00/£9.00.
