Thame Food Festival 2018

Thame Showground will again play host to the eagerly awaited culinary spectacular that is Thame Food Festival on Saturday 29th – Sunday 30th September. From its original home on Thame High Street this local food festival, has now grown to become one of the most renowned and respected events in the food calendar attracting a stellar line up of celebrity chefs & bakers, artisan food & drink producers and visitors from far and wide who all share a common interest – a passion for quality local produce!

This year’s Thame Food Festival is promising to be a real destination for the last weekend in September (29th and 30th) with a myriad of extensive food and drink experiences from over 120 artisan producers alongside live demonstrations from many leading chefs and bakers. The festival forms part of British Food Fortnight and naturally attracts a number of high profile celebrities from both the chef and baking world including, 2016 Master Chef winner, Jane Devonshire, and Great British Bake Off stars Jane Beedle and Candice Brown. Candice has been a regular columnist for The Sunday Times’ magazine, has baked on This Morning and Christmas Kitchen and more recently has become one of the ambassadors for Love British Food. On the Sunday, Candice will be joined on stage by Matt Evers, her partner of Dancing on Ice fame during the last series, and they will be doing a joint demonstration called…’Dancing on Icing Sugar!’

Returning to the festivals already packed programme are Bell Kitchens who will be running free pizza making workshops

through-out the event using Clementi wood fired pizza ovens. This will be topped off by several interactive demonstrations from the Clementi team themselves who are coming over from Italy, especially for the event to show what these ovens can really do!

Alongside will be some other demonstrations revealing the many different ways you can cook using one of their intriguingly named products – the Big Green Egg! This is not only a barbecue for grilling steaks and sausages, but a smoker, a roaster and a pizza maker and even a baker. And just like last year they will be joined by Farmer Lou – their preferred meat supplier – who will be offering delicious sausage rolls and serving up a storm with their hog roast. So obviously, as is always the case at Thame Food Festival there will be sampling galore!

If the food side of things is not enough to tempt you, then it is worth visiting the Bell Kitchen stand to find out more about their very latest product called Uberstar. This is a dry mix that you add to alcohol to make a cocktail! The simple process is to steep the

dry mix with vodka or Bacardi (depending on the cocktail). At the festival the Bell Kitchen team will be using it to mix up a jug with soda or juice and serving small samples in shot glasses. If you love it, then the dry non-alcoholic mix will be available to purchase, take away and make at home.

Another festival favourite returning this year is Britain’s leading Hotel, Spa and Country Club, Stoke Park where Award Winning Executive Chef Chris Wheeler will be joined by guest Chefs as they demonstrate cooking signature dishes using Quality Standard Mark Beef and Lamb. Chris will also be promoting his debut cookbook, The Ginger Chef ‘ Served Up’, plus he can be seen on the Magimix Demonstration Stage on Saturday 29th September – Twice!

This is just one of the plethora of interactive demonstrations that the festival promises to offer. There will also be opportunities to meet the chefs and bakers and possibly even get some book signings, such as Candice Brown’s very first book, Comfort (Ebury Press) which was released in July 2017.

In addition the festival is extending; featuring a wide variety of activities and shopping experiences. There is a dog show by Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, many children’s activities by Thomley, demonstrations by the WI at Denman College, plus a festival first for the Humble Country company. Dreamt up and brought to life by 4 local ladies, this large marquee will be home to a hand picked collection of unique kitchenalia and enticing vintage pieces that will be sure to tempt and inspire countryfolk and urban dwellers alike. All this will be further enhanced by the fabulous Festivales bar, botanical Gin Garden, plus a complete programme of live music on a dedicated stage.

Visitors are also advised to come with an empty belly ready to be filled with the culinary delights of the artisan food suppliers and hot street food stalls of which there are so many to choose from – you’ll be spoilt for choice.
