ON THE MIC: with Oskar and Georgie…

Every month we will be focussing on particular music groups or events in the area and finding out more about our local musicians. In this issue we are going to focus on Oskar and Georgie, a musical duo from Thame. They regularly perform at local open mic events and will be performing at Music in the Park (Sunday 1st May) and Beacon Fest (Friday 17th and Saturday 18th June) this year.

Q: How did you first meet?

A: We first met next to a campfire at White Horse Hill in Uffington, Oskar was playing his ukulele and Georgie joined in singing, there the story began!

Q: How did you get interested in music?

A: When Georgie was growing up her mother always used to play music instead of turning on the TV, she was brought up on Fleetwood Mac and Dire Straits! Oskar’s uncle gave him a copy of The Essential Bob Dylan at the age of 14, he loved the music so much that it started him out as a budding guitarist.

Q: What have been your musical highlights so far?

A: Our first real highlight was performing at The Cherry Tree in Kingston Blount, it was the first time the room feel silent when we started to perform and the reaction was amazing. Other highlights include: Headlining at the ‘Friday At The Fish’ open mic in December, playing The Swan open mic in February, Midsummer Music in Brill and New Years Eve at The Boat in Bledlow Ridge!

Q: What are you looking forward to the most?

A: We are very excited about performing at the Beacon Festival and Music In The Park which we have attended previously as audience members. The atmosphere was amazing, It will be the biggest audience we will have played to so far!

Q: Who are your musical influences?

A: Georgie is highly influenced by soul and R & B, some of her favourite artists include; Nina Simone, Sam Cook, Otis Redding and Annie Lennox. Oskar loves American guitarists and songwriters including; Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young. This variety of tastes means we can perform music from different genres and decades, our typical set list includes songs from; Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Wonder, Amy Winehouse, The Arctic Monkeys and many more.

Q: Can you be booked for events?

A: Yes we can be booked to play; Community events, weddings, birthdays and other social gatherings.
