Welcome to our May 2019 Sound of Music feature. Here you will find information on local musical events, upcoming concerts and where to find the best music tuition in the area.
Thame has a variety of fantastic opportunities for budding musicians who wish to join together with other like-minded people. From bands to choirs to bell ringing! We also host a huge variety of annual musical events.
This is a fantastic local group for babies and toddlers to enjoy a variety of music and related sensory activities. They offer independent music classes for babies, toddlers and pre-school children in Thame, Oxford, Abingdon, Headington and Kennington. Tock the Clock and Brown Bear are at the heart of every class and they feature in the groups core songs, these provide structure within the weekly classes. Children love to wind Tock and Clock and watch him choose the special song of the week!
A few of the many attributes of Clockwork Music are:
– Age specific curriculum written and delivered by qualified and experienced music teachers.
– Four separate age groups are offered on a weekly basis.
– A large variety of musical instruments are available to use during sessions.
– Interactive and sensory props to engage babies and young children.
– Fun and interactive classes for both children and the adults to enjoy!

Thame Concert Band
This fantastic local community group meet on Tuesday evenings from 7:30 – 9:30 pm at Christchurch, Upper High St, Thame.
The group regularly perform at local events including Thame Carnival, Carols at Waddesdon Manor, Village Fetes, Large formal concerts in the surrounding area and Civic occasions such as Remembrance Sunday amongst many others.
The group have places for new platers and would be very happy to talk to you about joining the band. You are more than welcome to go along to a rehearsal and try it out without any commitment. At the moment TCB are particularly looking for the following: Percussionist, Trumpet, Alto Sax, Clarinet, French Horn & Trombone players.

Thame offers some wonderful open mic events every month, these include:
The James Figgs – This lively pub in the centre of Thame will be hosts regular live music every 1st or 2nd Saturday of the month, search ‘James Figg Thame’ via Facebook for further information.
‘The Listening Room – Upstairs At The Keys’
The Listening Room Upstairs at the Keys is on the third Friday of each month and will feature two artists in an intimate acoustic setting. Entry is FREE.
‘The First Thursday Music Club’ – Takes place on the first Thursday of every month at The James Figg pub, Thame. Come along early to this popular monthly event to book into a slot or just to enjoy the wonderful live music on offer! Check out their Facebook page for further info. ‘Friday At The Fish’ – Takes place every 2nd Friday of the month at The Old Fisherman, Shabbington. Check out their Facebook page for more info or just come along to play! The event runs from 7:30pm – 11:00pm.
‘Unplugged At The Keys’ – This fantastic music event is open to everyone who likes to strum, sing, play a beat or just enjoy a relaxing musical afternoon! The event takes place every final Saturday of the month, upstairs at The Cross Keys pub in Thame from 3:00pm – 6:00pm. This is a unique opportunity to jam with fellow musicians covering a huge variety of songs, whilst enjoying the hospitality of the award-winning pub!
