Welcome to our April Sound of Music feature. Here you will find information on local musical events, upcoming concerts and where to find the best music tuition in the area. 

Thame has a variety of fantastic opportunities for budding musicians who wish to join together with other like-minded people. From bands to choirs to bell ringing! We also host a huge variety of annual musical events!

The Atalay Kebab Van Launch
The recent news of our very own Atalay kebab van winning ‘Best Kebab Van In Britain’ has been a fantastic accolade for the town! This coming April the boys will be launching their brand new, bigger and better kebab van on Saturday 8th April! As part of this there will be live music and entertainment between 4 – 8pm – This includes the fantastic local band Tay O’Lay who will be providing energetic and fun live music guaranteed to get you on the dance floor! Everyone is welcome to this free local event and of course the award winning van will be waiting for your orders!

Thame CarnivalThis year’s carnival will take place on Saturday 10th June! The charities the carnival will be in aid of this year will be ‘The Firefighters Charity’ and ‘Sobell House Hospice’. This wonderful event could not take place if it wasn’t for the many volunteers which work very hard to make it happen every year! The carnival committee are currently looking for budding new members who would like to volunteer their time for a wonderful local event. **NEW EVENT**

Thame Town Music Festival This amazing brand new event will be coming to Thame on Saturday 8th July! With venues across the town and a main stage next to the town hall this promises to be a wonderful array of live music – Everyone is welcome to come along!

The main objectives of the festival are:

  • To further enrich the cultural life and reputation of Thame as a vibrant, diverse, and enthusiastic community.
  • To give original artists a platform to perform in a quality setting to a supportive and engaged audience.
  • To continue the FTMC mission of promoting live music performance in Thame.
  • To support the local economy and small retail businesses particularly Thame High Street.
  • To kick start a fund/campaign to create a performance venue for Thame.

The performances will include some brilliant local talent along with artists from further afield. The festival website has further information on all the potential performers and everyone has a chance to vote for and suggest who they might like to perform on the day.

Music In The Park 2017  This local event, held every year since 2011, is a family-fun event featuring live music and dance acts to please kids, teens, parents and grannies alike! The music festival will be held in Elms Park, Thame, Oxfordshire on Sunday 30th April! They always have fantastic acts which get everybody up and dancing, tribute bands, singer/songwriters, local and school bands. There are two stages running consecutively right next to each other, so bring a picnic, pitch your blanket and enjoy the day!

There is also the ‘Crash Music Tent’ for acoustic performances and don’t miss ‘Ben’s Buskstop’ where anyone can turn up and play!

There will be plenty of food and drink – There are normally a couple of licensed bars selling wine, pimms, lager and real ales. To compliment your own picnic there are plenty of stalls selling hot and cold food such as pizza, hog roasts, Thai and currys, plus cakes and sweets! Children can be left to enjoy a range of fun activities in the capable hands of trained volunteers, allowing their parents to enjoy the music and see the rest of the attractions at their own pace! Thame offers some wonderful open mic events every month, these include:

Great Milton Singers – Great Milton Singers present ‘Music For Spring’ Mozart Vespers and more on Sat 1st April 7:30pm in St. Mary’s Church, Great Milton. Proceeds are in aid of the British Red Cross Syrian Crisis Appeal and The Porch Stepping Stone Centre. Tickets from Great Milton Stores or on the door. The James Figg – This fantastic pub right in the centre of Thame plays host to a variety of live music events throughout the year, not least the ‘First Thursday Music Club’ which hosts their open mic evening every month! For further info please visit: www.thejamesfiggthame.co.uk

‘Friday At The Fish’ – which takes place every second Friday of the month at The Old Fisherman, Shabbington. Check out their Facebook page for more info or just come along to play! The event runs from 7:30pm – 11pm.

‘Sunday Afternoon At The Swan’ – which takes place every 3rd Sunday of the month at The Swan Hotel, Thame. Check out their Facebook page for more info or just come along to play! The event runs from 4 – 8pm
